BAGS OF FOLDING

How a passion for compact design, sparked by a D&D game, became a mission to make tabletop adventures more portable for everyone.

About Us: Bags of Folding

Welcome to Bags of Folding, where the magic of compact design meets the epic adventures of tabletop gaming! Our story isn't just about foldable props; it's about a passion sparked nearly two decades ago by a simple, yet transformative, Dungeons & Dragons game.

The Seed of an Idea: A Foldable Boat and a Folding Chair

My journey into the world of foldable things began, as many great adventures do, with D&D. It was almost 20 years ago when a coworker pulled me into a new campaign. I was the new face among strangers, crammed onto a living room couch, and somehow, my character ended up with a foldable boat. Around the same time, I invested in a small, foldable camp chair – one with a handy bag in the back, perfect for stashing my game essentials. I still have that chair, a testament to the enduring appeal of clever, space-saving design.

Living in a mother-in-law suite back then, space was a precious commodity. That foldable boat and chair ignited a fascination with all things compact. I bought a folding table saw to build a real-life folding kayak and even crafted a folding shelf to organize my growing collection of belongings.

The Spiral Continues: From Papercraft to Portable Props

Decades, apartments, houses, and kids later, my eldest stumbled upon D&D and asked about it. "We can certainly try!" I exclaimed, eager to share the magic. We started with papercraft buildings, which quickly evolved into more elaborate, handcrafted structures. A year later, we had a Cricut machine, a new resin 3D printer, and five overflowing totes of "stuff" just to play a simple game. There had to be a better way!

The papercraft buildings transformed into cardboard foldables, then into sheet metal foldables with paper coverings. Why? Because our 3D printed minifigs had magnetic bases, and the rogue standing firmly on a magnetic roof, staying put, was undeniably awesome.

The "Aha!" Moment: Portability for Every Adventure

Then came the adventure league game at a local library. Suddenly, many of my beloved "toys" became much harder to just produce mid-game for comedic effect. (Yes, I once cut a tent pole down to 10 feet just so I could bring a literal ten-foot pole to my first in-person game!) The sheer volume and unwieldiness of our gaming setup highlighted a clear need.

Our Mission: Bags of Folding

And so, here we are. Bags of Folding was born from this very need. We create folding game props designed to fit easily into a bag. Our products are perfect for apartment dwellers (or even McMansion owners who appreciate efficiency!), traveling Dungeon Masters, and players who want to contribute more to the game than just snacks and their presence at the table. We believe that epic adventures shouldn't require a moving truck, and that the best props are the ones you can actually bring with you.

Join us in making your tabletop adventures more portable, more organized, and even more awesome!
